400 Person MetroIAF Regional Action

On Sunday May 7th 2017 WIN came together with all 5 IAF affiliates in the DMV and the Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) Local 689 for a 400 person action. Click Here to read the Washington Post’s coverage of the 400-person Metro IAF regional action demanding $1Billion to fix Metro bus & rail system. Our plan supports a form of dedicated funding and demands: more accessible affordable transit, middle-class jobs over working-poor jobs, & affordable housing on WMATA land. Read more about our proposal around WMATA funding. The action was the first regional action between all 5 IAF affiliates in the DMV, and was done in partnership with the ATU Local 689. WIN agreed to include WMATA issues in WIN’s upcoming actions, to organize those affected by WMATA in our congregations and communities, and take steps to build relationships of solidarity with members of the ATU. We will start by bringing 25+ people to the WMATA board meeting on Thursday, May 25th *Photos Courtesy of VOICE Leader George Duncan
