
Reverend Dr. Lewis T. Tait, Jr. was born in Washington, D.C. He graduated from Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, Texas, where he obtained his Bachelor of Business Administration degree. In the following years, he continued his academic studies with many achievements. Dr. Tait received a certificate from International Ministries in Muslim & Christian Relations from Mansfield College, Oxford University, a Master of Divinity degree at Howard University School of Divinity, and a Doctor of Ministry degree in African-centered Pastoring and Preaching from the United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio. Dr. Tait was also ordained at Faith Bible Church in 1986. Among Dr. Tait’s extensive professional accomplishments, he was called to organize the first African American Church in the history of the Penn Central Conference of the United Church of Christ, the Harrisburg Association, and the Board for Homeland Ministries in 1993. The church he organized grew to 500 members. Following a second calling as Organizing Pastor at the church known now as the Imani Christian Center, Dr. Tait returned to Washington, D.C. Here, Dr. Tait reorganized the Faith Bible Church, continuing his father’s legacy by becoming the Senior Pastor/Teacher. The church is now called The Village” (a.k.a. Faith Bible Church), and the mantra is: “I am because we are, and we are because of God.” In 2023, Dr. Tait graduated from Washington University in St. Louis with a Master of Social Work degree with a concentration in Domestic Social and Economic Development.
